An 18-month-old baby from Raigad miraculously escaped any life-threatening injuries after taking a pellet in the abdomen from a close range, discharged accidentally from an air gun resting on the wall in the house which had been kept to shoo away monkeys. Thanks to Mumbai’s doctors, the incident had an uneventful ending as the pellet was removed successfully.
It was a day of celebration at the child’s house in Srivardhan, Raigad district, when the accident took place in the last week of June within the few minutes that he was left unattended by his mother. The family said the child was playing on the floor when he managed to grab the gun’s strap and pull it down. “The loaded gun fell on the ground and went off due to the impact. The pellet entered his abdomen,” said the child’s uncle. “To our surprise and relief, he only had a perforated wound and didn’t start bleeding from it,” he said.
