LAKE FOREST, CA — Orange County firefighters are praising the quick-thinking actions of residents in Lake Forest for helping to contain a raging garage fire Wednesday.
The blaze broke out shortly after 4 p.m. in the 22200 block of Cripple Creek, according to the Orange County Fire Authority.
The residents were home when they heard a loud noise coming from their garage.

“They opened the door between the house and the garage and saw a fire,” according to the Orange County Fire Authority. “They quickly closed the door and safely escaped to call 9-1-1.”
Having the foresight to close the door made a major difference.

“Great job by the residents for closing the door,” the fire department tweeted. “If you can safely close doors when you escape a fire, it helps limit the damage caused by smoke and fire.”
Firefighters arrived on scene and were able to extinguish the blaze in 20 minutes and prevent it from spread to the home.
